Conducted by JASS Executive Director & Music Director Jeremy Monteiro with his musician friends Tamagoh (Drums), Sean Hong Wei (Saxophone) and Kenji Nakano (Double Bass), they played snippets of “Autumn Leaves” and “This I Dig of You” among other jazz standards to demonstrate the improvisational techniques.
JASSO PINNACLE CONCERT 2019: A JAZZY BICENTENNIAL COMMEMORATION OF SINGAPORE-UK FRIENDSHIP

Jazz Association (Singapore) is proud to present its inaugural Pinnacle Concert by the Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra (JASSO), and would like to thank Guest-of-Honour Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information & Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations and British High Commissioner to Singapore, HE Kara Owen for attending the concert.
Led by Music Director Jeremy Monteiro with Associate Music Director Weixiang Tan, the concert will feature top vocalist Tina May from the UK as well as well-known and established Singaporean vocalists, Louis Soliano and Alemay Fernandez. Other guest musicians from the UK include Alan Barnes, who has twice been named BBC Jazz Musician of the Year, and Trumpeter Henry Lowther, best known for his work with jazz luminaries Kenny Wheeler and the great British jazz icon Johnny Dankworth. On lead trumpet is Tom Walsh who despite having been a professional musician for only a few years, has already been featuring alongside the likes of multi-Grammy Award-winning musician, Quincy Jones.
VSA OUT LOUD 2019: POETRY MEETS JAZZ

JASS Associate Music Director Weixiang Tan and bassist Kenji Nakano performed at the Singapore Writers Festival - VSA OUT LOUD: Poetry Meets Jazz.
Presented by Very Special Arts (VSA) and in collaboration with the JASS and Writing Through, the youths from VSA shared their original poems to the accompaniment of live jazz.
We were able to witness how the participants overcome challenges with grace, courage, bravery and most importantly, love.
JAZZ APPRECIATION TALK - A BRIEF HISTORY OF JAZZ @ MADURO

OPENING OF EURASIAN HERITAGE GALLERY

The new Eurasian Heritage Gallery (EHG) was launched by President Halimah Yacob at the The Eurasian Association (EA).
A highlight of the launch was the debut of a song specially composed by JASS Executive Director and Music Director Jeremy Monteiro to commemorate the EA’s centennial. Entitled ‘To be Eurasian, to be Singaporean - It’s One and the Same’, Jeremy’s composition was inspired by an article written by EA Heritage Chairperson, Julia d’Silva titled, ‘I am Eurasian and Singaporean – Same, Same’. Celebrating the Eurasian community as one that is Singaporean in all its diversity in heritage and achievements. It was performed by Alemay Fernandez, accompanied by the Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra (JASSO).
KOREA-SINGAPORE JAZZ NIGHT
(2019 KOREA FESTIVAL)

Jazz Association (Singapore) collaborated with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to present the Korea-Singapore Jazz Night, as part of the on-going initiative to promote cultural exchange between Korea and Singapore.
The annual Korea Festival presents a musical concert by the hottest artists of the nation in its programme of events. This year will mark the very first time a jazz concert is part of the festival's line-up and will feature two groups of esteemed performers from both countries - the Jazz Association (Singapore)'s JASS Ensemble from Singapore, led by JASS Music Director and Singapore's King of Swing, Jeremy Monteiro, and Heo So Young, an acclaimed jazz vocalist hailing from Korea, with her band.
WELCOME TO MY WORLD 2019: STEPPING STONES

Jazz Association (Singapore) is glad to be able to work with Very Special Arts (VSA) once again for their annual concert, Welcome To My World 2019: Stepping Stones - it has indeed been a wonderful experience for all of us, including JASS Associate Music Director Weixiang Tan, Ben Poh (Bass) and Rafaee Mahmood (Drums) and guest vocalist Lily Hargrove.
Over the last year, JASS has begun to weave inclusiveness into our programmes to bring jazz to the underserved communities and it is our joy to partner with VSA, whose dedication is to develop and transform their beneficiaries with special needs through the arts.

Celebrate the highlights of the JASS Orchestras' repertoire the past year-to-date and the premiere of the Big Band version of Jeremy Monteiro’s snappy jazz-blues composition, “Mount Olive.”
With performances by vocalists Louis Soliano and Alemay Fernandez, and guest rapper THELIONCITYBOY, this special concert by the Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra (JASSO) features repertoire highlights ranging from innovative original compositions to swinging jazz standards to pulsating Latin Jazz and Brazilian Jazz.
This concert is in conjunction with SBG160 and Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2019.

JASS Executive Director & Music Director Professor Jeremy Monteiro led the talk alongside drummer Tamagoh, bassist Ben Poh and Sean Hong Wei who plays the saxophone.

Jazz Association (Singapore) proudly presents the 3rd Lion City Youth Jazz Festival Concert (LCYJF) 2019- The Songs of Porgy & Bess, featuring international jazz-star mentors with the outstanding young musicians of the Jazz Association Singapore Youth Orchestra (JASSYO!).
Led by Music Director Jeremy Monteiro, with Associate Music Director Weixiang Tan, the concert features Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Carmen Bradford and vocalist-virtuoso Kenny Washington as the featured mentor-vocalists. The repertoire for the evening will feature the well-known songs and themes of the Gershwin Musical, Porgy & Bess, like the classics “Summertime” and “I Got Plenty ‘O Nuttin.’”

The Jazz Association (Singapore) (JASS) organises the annual Lion City Youth Jazz Festival, its linchpin event centred around youth musicians. It comprises a series of workshops and rehearsals culminating in a finale concert, with a focus on nurturing the talent and developing the skills of youth
musicians under the tutelage of international jazz legends and prominent professional jazz musicians specially-invited to be their mentors. The signature of this festival is the week-long series of workshops under its "On-Stage Learning Programme," and immersive and practical programme for youth musicians to experience rehearsing and playing at professional levels of jazz performance.

Jazz Association (Singapore) (JASS) is bringing back another round of technical talk "Jazz Improvisation for Classical Musicians: The 4 Primary Scales of Jazz Improvisation" at National Institute of Education (NIE) and making it FREE for everyone to attend.
Join JASS Executive Director & Music Director Jeremy Monteiro, Rit Xu, Tamagoh and Teng Siheng as they demonstrate the techniques of jazz improvisation and how to apply these techniques of these techniques to your interpretation of music. This is a classical workshop for classically-trained musicians who wish to learn the techniques of jazz improvisation.
